Common questions

On shared hosting, your website runs on a server alongside other customers' sites. Resources like CPU and RAM are pooled, which keeps costs low - ideal for most websites that don't need dedicated resources.

A VPS gives you a fully isolated virtual machine with guaranteed RAM and storage, plus its own share of CPU. If you need consistent performance under load, full root access, or to run custom software, a VPS is a better fit. If you just need to host a website or email, shared hosting handles it well.

DirectAdmin is a web hosting control panel that handles everything cPanel does - file management, email, DNS, databases, SSL, and application installs - with a lighter server footprint and a flat per-server licensing model.

For most users the day-to-day experience is very similar. DirectAdmin's interface is modern and clean. If you've used cPanel before, you'll find your way around DA quickly. The main difference you'll notice as a customer is that DA-based plans are more affordable, because the licensing cost is lower.

Domain registration is handled separately. You can register a domain through our client area or point an existing domain to our nameservers. There is no free domain bundled with hosting plans - we keep hosting and domain pricing transparent and separate.

We provision Let's Encrypt SSL certificates automatically for every domain and subdomain on your account. Certificates are renewed automatically before expiry - no action needed on your part. HTTPS is enabled on day one.

Multiple PHP versions are available, including the latest PHP 8.x releases. You can switch the active PHP version per domain from within DirectAdmin - useful if you run a mix of modern and legacy applications.

Redis is an in-memory data store used for caching and session management. It dramatically speeds up dynamic sites - particularly WordPress, WooCommerce, and other CMS platforms - by storing frequently accessed data in RAM rather than hitting the database on every request.

Redis is included with every plan and available to configure via DirectAdmin. Most modern WordPress caching plugins (e.g. W3 Total Cache, WP Rocket) support Redis object caching out of the box.

We run automated weekly backups stored on a remote server. To restore files, databases, or email, open a support ticket and we'll handle the restore for you. We also recommend keeping your own off-site copies for critical data.

Bronze supports 5 domains (plus your primary domain). Silver, Gold, and Diamond support unlimited domains - you can host as many websites as your storage and bandwidth allow.
